What to do in Mindo? and where to go in Mindo?
In addition to birdwatching in Mindo, Mindo has many other activities to keep nature lovers occupied. The green, lush landscapes are punctuated by nature trails, freshwater rivers and waterfalls, which can be explored by foot.

Mindo river is a low-level rapids which is perfect for tubing so it is no surprise that this is one of the most popular activities in Mindo. For about $5 to $7 ($24 the whole ride) per person, you will be driven up to the launch point and will be given a helmet, a small inner tube that will be tied to the inner tubes of the other members of your group, a life jacket and a tubing local guide. This Mindo tubing is not rafting, so it will be a mellow float down the river—no need to navigate advanced rapids or anything.

Two other major attractions in Mindo butterfly farm. In fact. About two miles outside of town, along the road that goes to the waterfall, is the Mariposas de Mindo, or Butterfly Farm. This is the most well-known and most professional of them all. Admission to the Mariposario costs $7.50 per person.

Another great way to get introduced to the local flora and fauna is to participate in the nightly Mindo “frog concert” just outside of town. The name may be misleading, because the “frog concert” is less of a concert and more of a night walk in the forest and around ponds where an informational guide points out the different nocturnal species that inhabit the area, including the many species of frogs. The tour takes place at 7 p.m. daily and costs $5, which includes a glass of wine.

Adventure-seekers will not want to miss one of the canopy tours offered along the road to the waterfalls. Mindo Canopy Adventure is the the major company (the one with good reputation) that has set up cables through the Mindo cloud forest that tourists can zipline on. A canopy tour costs $18 for 10 lines and $8 for 2 or 3 lines. The price includes all the necessary equipment, a professional guide that can help you with tricks along the way, and the tour itself, which includes Mindo ziplining on more than 10 different cables.

Another activity in Mindo is riding on the Mindo cable car called tarabita (Mindo gondola), which stretches across two of the mountaintops. The ride provides some beautiful, photo-worthy views of the cloud forest. A roundtrip ride costs $3 per person, but you can also gain access to the Mindo Nambillo private reserve on the other side for an additional $5 per person.

Everybody talks, visits and enjoys Chocolate, if you want to support Organic Mindfully produced Chocolate please buy and support reliable and serious choclate brands. The farming and production of the chocolate is very far from the pristine cloudforest area. In the Tropics. They are tropifarmers (farmers from the tropics) committed to "plant to bar" chocolate making, perpetuating sustainable and traditional ways of agriculture while re-existing and saving a human heritage in danger of extinction. When choosing Yumbos Chocolate you are contributing to the generation of environmental justice, together with social and ecological sustainability in the forests of Ecuador.

Wonderful tour of the cloud forest

We took a custom tour of the cloud forest with Richard in October. Richard is a goldmine of knowledge regarding the fauna and flora of the region. He could even mimic the calls of the various birds of the forest. We chose to do a hike up to a waterfall where we could find some frogs, and Richard was able to locate for us a female Cock of the Rock nesting. We went to another location and saw tons of hummingbirds that weren’t afraid of our presence. I also really wanted to see a toucan, so instead of doing a cable car ride ( there are several activities and wildlife options to choose from), we choose to do more bird watching. We were glad we did as we saw so many colorful birds including a really big woodpecker AND at the end of the day at lunch at a quiet private location overlooking the forest, a toucan appeared so close to us. I cannot tell you how excited I was! My husband and I were also pleased that we didn’t have crowds and it was just us for the majority of the tour.

Also as a testament to Richard and his character, I had accidentally left the case to my camera at the place where we ate lunch, which was about 2 hours away from Quito. Richard at some point had retrieved it and dropped it off at the hotel at the AIRPORT which is an hour outside I Quito. To me that is going above and beyond and I am so thankful and appreciative for what he did.

Richard helped make our honeymoon memorable and special, and we are grateful for him.

great two days in Mindo

We took an overnight tour of the Mindo area with Richard. It was a terrific trip with hiking and photography opportunities, and learning about this part of Ecuador. On the first day, we went on a short hike in an Orchid Preserve, visited two different private places to see hummingbirds and butterflies, learned about how chocolate is made in a small factory, did a cable car ride in pouring rain and, at night, took a short trip in the forest to discover and see tiny frogs. On the second day, we left very early to see Cock-of-the-Rocks flying around just as sun came up on dense forest, and then went on a couple of short hikes. Richard is very knowledgable and friendly. Further, he has taken as his mission to help other locals benefit from tourism, instead of that money going to third parties (large tour companies). I like that and I am glad we did our little bit to encourage it. Highly recommended.
